I am a Japanese 11 year old girl who loves art, music, books and animals.
I was born in October which means my birthstone is an opal and my birth star is a Libra.
I have a brother (Sota whose 9 years old) and a sister (Ichigo whose 7 years old).
My favourite colour is aqua blue.
My favourite food is sukiyaki (type of Japanese food), meat buns, dumplings and sushi. My favourite sport is swimming, skiing and badminton.
I can play the piano, ukulele, recorder and harmonica.
I don't listen to the radio so I don't have any English favourite songs but my favourite song in Japan is 'MONSTER' by a group called Arashi. My favourite movie is 'My Neighbourhood Totoro', 'The Sky Castle Raputa' and every other Ghibli creations. I also like 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and 'I WISH'.
I like art, music, writing, topic and reading.
And as I said, I love books. Jacqueline Wilson and Kate Maryon are my favourite authors.
I love animals and I have 1 pet; a cat called Mikee, Mikee in Japanese means 'three colour fur'. Mikee is brownish orange, black and white.
I love mostly any animal but my favourites are; squirrels, whales, dolphins, penguins, polar bears, killer whales, and mice/hamsters.
My dream is to become a vet of a zoo or become a writer and write many books in English and Japanese.
I have lots of friends but mostly;Myu M, Myu T, Emily, Lilian, Maria, Kayra, Maddie, Raiha, Isabella and more!
I participate in Maypole Dance and I am also a Librarian.
I hope you will enjoy looking at my page!
This is the national anthem of Japan (very short I have to say). It is called Kimigayo. Kimigayo means 'Our Emperor'.
Kimi ga yowa Chiyoni Yachiyoni Sazare Isino Iwaotonarite Cokeno Musumade
My Culture I am from Japan. Japan gets really really hot in Summer and it gets really really cold in Winter. I am strong in coldness but if I had to live a month of about 35 degrees Summer I would die... But I love Japanese food, Japanese comics and animation, Japanese books and Japanese everything! Japan has comics and aminations that are very famous. Japan has changed so much from the past but I wish there was more untouched environment in Japan. Japan has lots of fun affairs and festivals. I love going in Winter because sometimes it snows and the christmas cakes are soooooo yummy!! Also you can go skiing which I love doing! And school in Japan is much stricter than New Zealand. You have a lot of homework each day. Also you have all these moniters like the 'Role Calling Moniter' where in New Zealand you will have the teachers doing it. I was the 'Caring Moniter' where I got to take care of rabbits at the school. We used to have pet rabbits and fish at my school! And there are 'School Anthems' in Japan. We sing that each morning. Also Japanese culture is very different to New Zealand. First of all the national anthem above is more shorter than New Zealand's. The language is very different too.
Japanese names often have meanings represented by kanjis. For example, my name is represented by
three kanjis; walk, field and flower. This represents my name meaning my mum walked in a field full of flowers before I was born. You write my name like this in Japan;
大崎歩乃花. The first 2 kanjis represent my family name and the other 3 represent my name, Honoka.
There are lots of legends and myths in Japan. One is called 'Legend of Tanabata';
My favourite books I love books, as you know.Some books I like are; Chronicles of Narnia (personal favourite), Jacqueline Wilson books, Ruby Rosemount books, Baby Sitter Club books, Someday Angeline, Cicada Summer, A Million Angels, Holes, The Conch Bearer, The Indian in the Cupboard and more! My favourites are Jacqueline Wilson books though.
If I were to recommend an English book I would definitely recommend 'Hetty Feathers" by Jacqueline Wilson. I would recommend this to girls who like other Jacqueline Wilson books. Hetty Feathers is a book about a girl who grew up not knowing her true family. At her first home she recieves her name-Hetty. Hetty has some adventures and as she spends her life she figures out her true mum. Her true name. And the reason why she got separated from her parents... Read to discover how much a girl can hold...
There is a second book called 'Sapphire Battersea' and a third one called 'Emerald Star'. I sooooooooo want to read them both!
Term 1
In Term 1 the topic was Responsibility. We worked on making our leader projects where we explained why our chosen leaders were influential and inspirational. My leader was Florence Nightingale. We also worked on trying to be a leader ourselves.
I think being responsible means to be reliable and being able to do all your roles constantly.
There are lots of responsibility and leadership roles at school like being Librarians, Road Patrols, Student Councillors, House Captains and more.
In Term 1 we also had fun activities.The first one was Waterwise.
Waterwise was fun each week, being able to sail and kayak at a young age. I am looking forward to doing it again in Term 4.
I also enjoyed Year 6 Camp. We went to Camp MERC ( Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre). We stayed there for 2 nights and 3 days. There were lots of cool activities there like Archery, Orienteering, Raft Building, Abseiling, Tree Climbing, Stack'em, Surfing and Rock Climbing.
My group did Archery, Orienteering, Raft Building, Abseiling, Tree Climbing, Stack'em and Surfing.
My favourite was Tree Climbing, Surfing and Stack'em.
I think Term 1 was a really good start for the year.
Term 2
In Term 2 the topic is Change. I think change is about making a difference from the past. There have been lots of discoveries since the past centuries;telephones, radios, computers and more. I think change is important because if we did not have change we would not get anywhere.
This is my poem 'I am a Soldier':
I can smell death rising constantly from my tired comrades
I can hear painful screams from the courageous men
I can see red poppies sprouting like hope from Heaven
I can touch rough scars on my cold, tired face
I can taste fear forming on my numb tongue
And as I lay down, the warm smiles of my family appear on the back of my eyelids
In Term 2 we had a 'Circus Workshop'. George and Lil taught us many amazing tricks like miming and more. We wrote a recount about it in writing.
We also watched a circus performance which George and Lil performed. I loved George's hat and cane tricks.
We also went on a trip. We went to the Maritime Museum. It was really fun going in the galleries and I think we learned a lot. My favourite time there was going on the Ted Ashby boat. The weather was very sunny and it felt so nice feeling the sea breeze. We saw 3 people bungy jumping off the Harbour Bridge too!!
In Term 2 we did various art. We did the Anzac art, painting colour tones and cutting out black soldiers and poppies but I really liked the idea for the pastel art. We chose a NZ animal first. I chose a dolphin (I love dolphins and whales). Then we did a rough sketch of our animal and looked closely at a picture of the animal to find out what colour to use. We started colouring our animals with pastel. I hope we get to finish it by next term.
We are doing a Marine Animal Inquiry Project this term. My chosen Marine Animal is a Humpback Whale. This is a Humpback Whale singing!
In Term 2 Philip Dadson came for a visit. He showed us how to make easy music by lost and found things. He is a very creative musician and an artist.
We also had Performing Arts night. Lots of groups performed including the Kapa Haka, Chinese Dance, Dance, Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Rock Band, Glee and Room 9. It was a really fascinating night, watching all the talented performers. (I performed in the Chinese Dance).
This is a power point about the highlights of this term:
Term 3 Term 3 is filled with lots of exciting and fun events like art exhibitions, Year 6 production, Cross Country (no, it is not exciting), speeches (no, not fun) and more.Term 3's topic is Communication and us in Year 6 is learning how to communicate through the arts. We learnt some things about the London Olympics 2012 too. We were set a homework to do a research on an aspect of the Olympics.
This is my Olympics power point on Nadeshiko Japan;
Our project in Year 6 is to communicate to the school and everyone that the marine life is in danger, by the Year 6 production. We started making our sound scape instruments and practising for the scenes. The production is called 'The Night at the Museum'. We got into groups for making the props; Albatross, Mist/Waves, Sailors Costume, Boats and Dancer's Wings. I am in the Dancer's Wings group. In the Wing group we have created 82 wings (41 pairs) using grey fabric and sewed elastic bands on each end. We are up to the stage glue gunning plastic strips on the end and sticking sequence to make it pretty.
For art we have also started Book Art. First we chose a book and sandpapered the pages we are going to use and glued the pages we don't. Then we painted gesso (please tell me if it is not spelled correctly) onto the sandpapered pages. This was a hard task because gesso sticks pages together like glue, so we had to stand the book up while doing it! Then we started painting the pages. We're allowed to stick sustainable coastline things on the book too! Mine is finished and in the hall for production.
We have done our production on the 12th of September. It went really nice and we didn't make a single mistake! The production starts with an ancient mariner at the art auction starting to tell his story... The story starts with the mariner shooting an albatross for reasons unexplained! The albatross is hung around his neck. The albatross starts to give him punishment. The albatross spirit controls the mariner's ship. While this the mariner meets dolphins, seals, turtles and whales. They were all very beautiful, but the albatross has only shown him the good parts of the ocean... The mariner sees bad changes of the ocean. The albatross shows him hope by leading him to the Kermadecs Islands... Here the mariner is able to say "Thank you, I bless you for your beauty." and the albatross is freed from his neck...the mariner is free! There is a moral at the end...watch the production to hear it!
We're doing two more shows on the 13th of September. We hope we have done a good job and sent the message to everyone. A big 'Thank you' to Mrs Winstone too!!
Term 4 Our topic for Term 4 is 'Structures'. I think Structures is parts of a created thing, man-made and natural. We are also having Athletics Day, Waterwise again (Year 6), Rainbows End trip (for the Year 6 leaders), Year 6 Social, Year 6 Assembly, Kite flying Day and many more. For us, Year 6 this is our last term to be at Meadowbank School.
Mrs Winstone told us to create a homework research on a famous person that has to do with 'flight'. So this is my homework on the Wright Brothers;
The Year 6 Social theme 2012 is fluro. The hall was decorated really brightly. On the night we came at 6:00 and the hall was set really nicely. I decorated the photo booth wall with Maddie, Reeve and Josh H. We painted words like '2012', 'YOLO', 'Peace' and more onto a brick wall. We danced a lot and everyone was dancing to Gangnam Style (laugh).
